Getting Religion in the Theatre

Ellen has promised to blog Passing Strange in full, but I just want to mention here (since I don't think our friends' lists map perfectly over each other) that this is one of the Best Plays Evar. It's about family, being an artist, adolescence, religion, race, gender, the difficulties of love, separation, grief, and, finally, joy. It's also smart, energetic, and totally unsentimental. I was utterly engaged from first word to last, and cried twice--not because it was so sad, but because it was so good.

Broadway plays are expensive, but there are artists' tickets and on-line discount tickets on things like Broadway Box and Ticket Mania. This is the kind of musical that reenvisions the genre, the kind of play that people who don't usually go to the theatre should see.
