Technical Difficulties

In a nutshell (since that's all I have time for), the broadband works on Ellen's computer, but not on mine. So both the long, lovely trip reports on Niigata I've written are in exile on my computer. I'm typing this one on Ellen's. Sadness, as she would say.

Briefly, though. Japan outside of the Big Smoke is very beautiful and very peaceful. We have joyed in subtly variagated tile roofs, a horizontally-growing pine on a tall, craggy, wooded rock a little out to sea, a huge shinto shrine to prosperity and increase set in what I can only call "Our Neighbor Totoro" country, beautiful and deadly-looking swords in a museum attached to same, a sake brewery (with tastes, of course. Yum.), and two feasts of Lucullan splendor, one featuring fish and seaweed, the other grilled chicken (everything except the cluck and feathers). And sake.

You'll have to wait for more detail until I get to Kyoto, I'm afraid, at which point I'm going to have many LONG posts to put up. Ah, well. I'll hit the high points, shall I? With any luck, mostly what I'll be doing in the mountains is sitting around in very hot water, followed by writing. I really have to do some of that. Soon.
